Sudaporn Teja (Thai: สุดาภรณ์ เตจา; born 27 August 1986) is a Thai abstract artist and contemporary artist. She started her early abstract paintings by applying thin layers of colors to convey the impression of a shallow pictorial space. Her oeuvres are in the synthesis of abstract form with psychological contents and social movements in accordance with time. Her artworks frequently make references to primary data, literature, numbers, personal narrative and beliefs. She has developed to incorporate substances, such as pin, nail, petal and hormone gel, to deliberate on subject, stain, and sentiment into paintings that mirror the audience’s ardent gaze.
She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (2008) and Master’s Degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from Chiang Mai University (2013). She was amongst international artists accepted in Thaillywood residency in 2013, whose solo exhibitions were held at Serindia Gallery (2014, 2016-2018), Alliance Française Bangkok (2014, 2019), and Galerie Jean-François Cazeau in Paris (2015, 2020). Sudaporn has presented her works in numerous group exhibitions locally and internationally, including SPECTROSYNTHESIS II – Exposure of Tolerance: LGBTQ in Southeast Asia (2019), Art Hsinchu (2018), Éclectisme (2016), and Art Stage Singapore (2016).
Born and raised in Chiang Mai, her family name Teja has a long artistic lineage dating back to the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910). It was Sudaporn’s great grandfather, Oon-Teja, who was an accomplished musician, earning his title 'Luang Maneewan' conferred by King Inthawichayanon, the 7th Ruler of Chiang Mai and Lanna, as one of the finest musicians in his region and time. Her great grandmother was also an accomplished Thai Lue craftsman, whose family made silverwares and various types of weavings. Sudaporn’s Lanna artistic blood runs thick. These abstract works are her calls from within, the expressions by which she chose as a professional artist. Sudaporn currently works at her private atelier in Bangkok.
